Distance from workshop location to selected western Pacific vents

From the OIST campus, the great circle distance to the closest known vent is only 115 km to Izena Cauldron in Okinawa Trough. The distance across the Philippine Sea to Snail vent on the southern Mariana back-arc is 2228 km. The Google Earth map of vent locations is available at: http://www.interridge.org/irvents/maps
