Afternoon 2, Session 2: Planning for coordinated field research
Session Chairs: Stace Beaulieu, Hiromi Watanabe, and Satoshi Mitarai
This entire session will be a guided discussion. We will start with general research questions that can be addressed in the Mariana region. Then we will focus down to specific research questions for which we can make some operational choices, for example - choosing a specific subset of vents to study, discussing tools to be used, discussing when to propose cruises. We will discuss multiple funding opportunities within the U.S. (NSF, NOAA, private), Japan, and other countries (France, Canada). We may form smaller groups to target specific topics. We will get back together as one whole group to summarize our discussion(s) at the end before adjourning the workshop.
